Feeling stuck? A Few Small Changes Can Help Unlock Something

Feeling stuck means we're not growing.

Our jobs may be stressful and challenging in their own way, but that doesn't mean we're growing in a way that we value. Maybe we're doing the same thing over and over, or maybe it's just that we're not passionate about what we're doing day to day. Even a small change of perspective can unlock something unexpected.

A few of the things that worked for me:

1. Change a routine

This just challenges your brain in a different way and makes you think differently. Drive a different route, spend time with someone new.

2. Take a course

There is so much information available and easy to access. We often get stuck in only learning what's necessary for our day jobs. Taking a course in something just because we're interested in it brings the joy back to learning.

3. Challenge yourself to new experiences for a month

This one's fun. Try something new once a week (or more if you're really keen). I took dance classes, tried MeetUp and a bunch of other things. Dance is now a part of my routine. Going back to it after almost 30 years has been a gamechanger.

4. Find a community interested in something you're passionate about

Join something where you spend time with your tribe. It can be anything - chess, volunteering, book club, animal playdates.

5. Get out in nature more

I can't rave enough about this one. Ideas just seem to flow when outside.

6. Physically move

Physically getting unstuck often translates into mentally getting unstuck. Walk, dance, run, stretch.

This video is from a recent trip. I took a course on MindValley, changed my routines to commit to the coursework and online meetings, and met an incredible community of like-minded people, one of whom I frequently hike and head into nature with. All boxes ticked.
