When Last Have You Reviewed Your Definition of Success?

It’s almost embarrassing to admit I’d never been to see the Spring flowers on the West Coast, despite being a born and bred Capetonian.

Every year people raved about it. Every year I glanced at the pictures and moved on to other ‘more productive’ activities. My definitions of success were tied to sales targets and delivery milestones, so how would frolicking through fields of flowers possibly be a good use of time?

This week, after a mortified friend looked at me in horror when I confessed I hadn’t been, I was eventually convinced to see what the hype was about.

…and I loved it. Mind blown 🤯.

Spring is said to be the season of hope. New beginnings. Transformation. That’s never felt more fitting than now. South Africa feels hopeful. Possibilities are everywhere. For me, my own definitions of success have shifted, and they feel all shiny and new.

If I’m spending days lying in fields of flowers, then the seemingly impossible is, in fact, completely possible. Yes, it took some negotiation with the bees and snakes, but the end result was worth it.

I now find myself wondering what everyone else’s definitions of success are and how are they changing?
