“Loving people live in a loving world. Hostile people live in a hostile world. Same world.” ― Wayne W. Dyer
It's all perspective and mindset.
In Man's Search for Meaning, Viktor Frankl speaks about being challenged to change ourselves when we are no longer able to change a situation. "Forces beyond your control can take away everything you possess except one thing, your freedom to choose how you will respond to the situation."
As I write this, there are scenes of bombing in Lebanon on the television. World news can be overwhelming and sometimes makes it a struggle to find optimism.
A change of perspective can move us from feeling helpless to feeling empowered and to taking positive action.
1. When there's a tragedy, we can look for the helpers. We then get to experience the best of humanity instead of the worst.
2. We can do the research to make conscious choices on where/how we spend our money. We can then make decisions that align to our values.
3. We can vote, be it in national elections or Body Corporate selections. Positions of power matter, as do our votes. Feeling heard changes how we show up in the world.
4. We can volunteer. Changing just one life makes a difference.
5. We can put ourselves in someone else's shoes and try their perspective. It does wonders for the ability to be a bit kinder.
6. When we struggle, we can ask for help.
This list goes on.
